Monthly Love Letter for September: You are perfect in your imperfection

Deer Babes,
I wasn’t expecting Nine of Feathers to show up, but it did.  I was hoping for something a bit softer, easier, especially since Eight of Bottles last month told you it was time to move on.  Whether you wanted to or not.  But like I said, here it is.

Nine of Feathers isn’t a bad card, it’s about deep healing and reclamation of the self.  Specifically, the self you have abandoned, the parts that caused others to abandon you, the pieces that have been smothered, deemed dangerous — your wild heart.  The image is of a bird in a cage, clutching onto one of the cage tines, one of their own feathers in their beak, a small pile of more of their feathers, and a big patch of bare skin, where the feathers have been plucked.  This bird might be frightening when first approached, but what is being witnessed is the reclamation of self.

​This bird is actually a Phoenix that hasn’t been in touch with their natural cycles or instinct for a long, long time.  Generations long.  So long, nobody remembers that their sacred role.  You are this Phoenix.  You are now remembering who you are, reaching back through time to reclaim your power and rewrite your story to heal deep beliefs that have kept you suspicious of your desires.  You’ve been misunderstood, been called trouble and / or bad, your actions pathologized as dangerous and / or reckless, and / or ostracized from the ones who were supposed to love and protect you.  You learned you were dangerous, a problem to be solved, a burden.  Who was ever gonna love a little beast like you?

You are.

Your mission this month is to change your perspective about your self.  Drench your past selves with the compassion and empathy you needed.  Recognize the ways you asserted your autonomy, even if it wasn’t perfect and / or pissed people off.  Understand that the ones who tried to cut you into tiny pieces were acting from a place of fear.  Your existence was / is proof that more is possible, and that scared them.  It might have triggered an intergenerational survival response, and they have long forgotten what a gift it is to have your brave heart show up in this lifetime.

​The fact that you are still here is a testament to your strength and perseverance.  I hope the messages of the Nine of Feathers can be a spark that reignites the fires of life your bones remember.  You are perfect in your imperfection.
